Hourou Musuko Review

Hourou Musuko or Wandering Son in English tells the story of a boy who wants to be a girl and a girl who wants to be a boy, and their experience around society.
The boy's name is Shuichi Nitori and the girl's name is Yoshino Takatsuki. They knew each other since grade school, and their relationship would've gone deeper if not for some certain circumstances.

But romance is just a secondary plot driver in the series as the main keystone of the story is "gender".
These kids are in the process of getting to know themselves fully. But sometimes there are those rare cases where people are not aware of who they are. Sometimes who they are is not always who they want themselves to be.

This is the story of Hourou Musuko.

Rarely has the "gender-bender" genre been used in serious stories. Usually, as Anime News Network's Carlo Santos had put it, gender in Hurou Musuko takes a different turn in what other animes would usually do. In other animes, the reversal of genders would be used as a form of humor. But in Hourou Musuko, the process of knowing ones self, they're gender and who they are inside was the source of dramatic content.

If you are up to watching a lighthearted anime with beauty in both story and art, then Hourou Musuko would be a great choice.
Though it's not that hard to find its flaws, the greatness of the anime outweighs its flaws.
We are introduced to a handful of characters, each played their roles and executed it in perfection. No one was left out. Even with the shortest of screen time, they made good use of it to shine with the main cast. Everyone was, in one way or another, important in the progress of the story.

Hourou Musuko is one of the rare animes to last for only 11 aired episodes. But with each passing episode, we are slowly drawn to the story just as the story draws itself to reality. It may seem far-fetched but what the anime conveys to its audience is very real and it happens.
Hourou Musuko is a definite must watch.
It was beautifully animated with elegant design, superb opening and closing themes, and story.
