On the list of all the upcoming Spring 2013 animes, I've been desperately searching for an anime with pure action. Shingeki no Kyojin didn't catch my eyes the first time I checked because of all the hype about Railgun S and I also got caught up with other old titles.
After reading a few comments on some popular anime sites, I decided to try Shingeki no Kyojin.
The first episode lacked the action that I was expecting. There were soldiers with what they call 3DMG swinging here and there like Spiderman then on to the drama, but I let that slip through because it was an origin episode. The second episode seemed to have rushed a bit near the middle with a two year time skip, already?
On the 3rd episode, finally at least a little thrill. We see our main characters Eren, Mikasa and Armin and a few new supporting characters matured a little because of the two year time skip. Training time for all of them. I'm in the middle of impressed and annoyed with the character Sasha Blause. For a story with a level of seriousness as ShinKyo, a character like her seem like an extra, a decoration for humor and her scenes aren't even that funny. Still I have to note her because the comic relief always finds a spot in the heart of viewers.
Eren's triumph with the 3DMG in the final minutes of the episode brought a little chill on the spine but again with the fast pacing. Yay he conquered the 3DMG, next scene we already see him swinging through trees.
Hopefully next episode will be full of action, finally.
In the animes technical parts, I have to comment on the character design. I don't hate it but I don't really like it that much either. My main complaint is the thick outline in their design, it's unique, yes, but I don't see any special value for that. But despite that thick border, I do like how their faces changed from the two year time skip. Only little changes were made but it was effective.
