This day marked the start of the Academic Year 2013-2014 in UPLB and guess what, classes were suspended.
Like last year when I was an incoming Freshman, the freshmen this year were given a campus-wide and college-specific orientations. But before those orientations were what the campus called "almOSAlan" which is a play on words for "almusal" which is filipino for breakfast, and the three letters in all caps OSA which means Office of Student Affairs-the sector responsible for the event.
almOSAlan is a traditional event-as far as I know- in UPLB and while it does involve waking up early and joining the other freshmen in a long, long line which slowly progresses while upperclassmen who belong to Orgs and Frats/Soro hand out flier and treats as the freshies proceed to the place of the orientation.
The upperclassmen were invited to join the event but, though I kinda wanted to, waking up early was still a drag.
I was supposed to wake up around 5:30 am but since I slept around 2 last night, I woke up at 7. I ate burger patties and fried rice-the dishes cooked by my grandma yesterday- drank coffee and surfed the net for a while. I went out to scout my rooms around 8:45.
The was wearing my running shoes, and now I know why they were strictly called 'running' shoes. Their purpose, and only purpose, is in fact for running and not walking on a tour. The combined heat of the ground and the thin sole of the shoes gave my feet a heat-burn (or whatever it's called).
I met one of my course-mate when I passed through the Office of the University Registrar, we talked as we walked and separated when he went to the Campus Library and I to the Institute of Biological Science.
Around 9:30, I went to take a look at the Track Oval when I got there the campus-wide freshmen orientation was still yet to finish. The path was also blocked and so I went back the route that I took.
I completed my room scouting around 10:05 am, by that time mom was already awake and was just eating breakfast.
After eating, she cleaned my whole room which prompted me to surf the net outside. By 12 noon, it began to rain- a prediction mom made based on the presence of a dragonfly in my room. The rain and dark sky stayed until late afternoon.
.
I ate waffles for lunch and around 4 pm, mom and I went to St. Therese of the Child Jesus to pray. We, then, went to a stall to get my globe tattoo loaded with 20 php.
Afterwards, we went to an anime/accessories/kids store looking for Cardfight!! Vanguard booster packs but sadly there were none but mom did bought me a cell phone case for Alca.
Around 5, we went to Robinson's to buy a small wooden table and lastly we went to The Original's to buy the orders for Buko Pie and Cassava Cake. Mom bought me a box of Pineapple pie.
We ate dinner at Black and Brew, mom and I both ordered Pesto Pasta but I made mine a combo of pasta, iced tea, tuna sandwich and a cookie.
When we finished eating we went back to the dorm and mom packed her things.
Mom and kuya Cezar left for Castillejos around 7:20.
I felt very lonely afterwards and I did cry for a little tiny bit. I do hope the next time I cry will be continuous tears of joy and happiness.
I shaved and took a short bath around 8:30. After posting this I'll probably watch a little Sket Dance then go to sleep. Well then, tomorrow will be the real deal start of classes. Goodnight.
(sorry no pictures for today)
