and so began Kabukimonogatari

Kabukimonogatari, the story which succeeds (or more accurately, overlaps) Nekomonogatari (Shiro) in NisiOisin's Monogatari series of light novels, just aired its first episode of the anime adaptation this morning (or yesterday, my data is not that accurate) produced by one of the legendary animation studio, Shaft.

This story is about Mayoi Hachikuji the Earthbound ghost that Koyomi met during the events of Bakemonogatari.

While I, myself, haven't read its novel counterpart yet, Shaft's adaptation of the original source definitely does not fail.
Nekomonogatari Shiro's anime adaptation concluded two weeks ago with a recap of the arc filling for the 6th episode of Shaft's entry to this Summer 2013 anime series, Monogatari Series 2nd Season.
The long absence of our hero is finally felt throughout the first episode having shared the spotlight with 3 other characters and just 1 focal character in the story. By that I meant the girl whom Koyomi had a conversation with at the beginning of the episode, Yotsugi Ononoki, and the ever so adorable loli form of the proud vampire Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade, which is, in that adorable loli form, Shinobu.

As with the novel, the Monogatari series' main plot driver lies in conversations, smart and surprisingly lengthy conversations between two or more characters, or a monologue which is primarily done by the main  story teller in this arc, which is Koyomi Araragi (which kept tradition unlike the previous arc which was told by Hanekawa Tsubasa ~nyan).
Mayoi Jiangshi starts off with a conversation about traffic lights and with that seemingly wildly thought of idea may easily come to the audience halfway as referring to how Mayoi died. It is, with that small conversation between Koyomi and Ougi, that which moved the story to motion.
We are, as the previous arc, treated to a returning character in the form of Yotsugi Ononoki which remained as Koyomi's conversation partner discussing ideas about death and rebirth (pun intended, Evangelion to those who are challenged) and so finally enters the golden-haired doughnut-loving proud loli vampire, Shinobi in a scene where Koyomi is in conflict about how he was to address our ghost loli (Mayoi) about ho she feels as a ghost and so forth.

The turning point of Kabukimonogatari's 1st episode is the unusual utilization of an overused concept regarding time and how it was supposed to be cheated. As if purposely being sarcastic and exaggerated about the concept, our golden vampire utters words that would, yes, sound definitely original, but along with that originality is the air of cliche' as she summons Stein's Gate (another pun intended). Although their purpose for summoning wasn't entirely just for a petty reason of completing one's purpose, no. What made the overused concept of time travel interesting (but not all too refreshing) is that he wanted to take the opportunity to possibly save a life.
Whoever this life might belong to should already be obvious and so I will end my discussion about the first episode of Kabukimonogatari here.

ikuze! ~ah, shipatsu!
Of course, I know several bits and pieces of the entire story of Kabukimonogatari, still there are a great number of new things that I would definitely want to see in this arc. Last arc was a bit in the mature side in the eyes of Hanekawa Tsubasa, but now, with the return of our lolicon and harem-king with his loli vampire, and bits of drama and humor in another loli's part, the story takes another interesting turn.
