Right, I just finished bathing after a fiesta run here in the university called the Makiling Challenge.
There are a lot of factors in this race on why I was really reluctant to join:
1. It requires waking up early... yeah that should really explain itself. (Woke up at 4:10 am)
2. It requires its runners to...well obviously run. But I am not the type to wake up early so that I could just run
3. After the race, all sorts of body pains and aches are inevitable.
4. ...and the list goes on.
But all those complaints, all those 'I'm not sure if I can do this' expressions were all dispelled when the PE-2 RUN class were all required to join.
Just my luck I am one of those students in that class.
This 10 km run has been the goal of both our PE instructor and most likely the rest of us for the past 4 months. That is what we've been preparing for. Resistance buildup, stamina, endurance, strength, breathing exercises, all those we did for us to complete this challenge.
Now here's a brief chronology of events since this morning:
Like I said above I woke up at 4:10 am. Strangely enough someone or something was playing a melody in my dreams and as it ended with a 'click' my alarm sang like it's the end of the world.
Anticipating this morning I got up immediately, no more 5 more minutes.
I ate a small but surprisingly heavy breakfast...it wasn't even a full moon. By that I meant a moon cake, a half piece...a half moon, a half piece moon cake. Anyway you get it.
After the half moon or half piece it's time to take on the cold waters of the bathroom. Yep that should really be the first challenge of this day. The cold water and the shivers you get afterwards.
Fast forward (by Monkey Majik) to Baker Hall, it's a little dark, the sky was a deep Black Rock Shooter blue. There were a few people at the venue, and fewer inside the Baker Hall.
I saw some of my classmates in my PE 2 RUN course and did a few warm up drills.
Outside, before the first gun start, our instructor in PE 2- RUN and one of the organizers of the event, Ma'a,m Abueg gave us a quick, rather, very quick warm-ups with music. It's all about the music.
The 16 km runners were up first. Those guys must really be pro runners even in their sleep. The gun start for them was, well shit I forgot to time the event. PewDiePie would be disappointed at me.
After 5 minutes,
3...2...1 gun start for 10 km and our race begins.
I'm proud to say theat I was able to cover up the first 2.5 km without stopping or slowing down. After that, I just allowed the songs in my Ipod shuffle to do the motivation.
The main song which I repeated for a few times was the TV size of Naruto (whoa Naruto is a dictionary word in Google Chrome) Shippuden opening 8. I forgot the title but I'm sure the 7th opening was Toumei Datta Sekai.
Anyway, some of the songs were PERSEUS by Yamazaru, Perfect Day by supercell. Stardsuter by Miku Hatsune (fuq, I love you Miku), and a lot more anime/vocaloid/J-whatever genre music I had. Although I know I skipped more songs than played them.
The road going to the newly built Tori Gate in the university was mainly up-flat-down and going down that long shrine-like stairs was easier than expected.
The hard part was at the Never Ending Bridge (which surprisingly ended for some unknown reasons) to the turning point of the 10 km distance and back at the Tori Gate.
Going down was definitely a lot easier than going up. Which can actually be a metaphor for our grades now that the semester is ending.
Raising your grades is like going up a long flight of stairs, it's extremely difficult unlike failing which is as easy as going down the stairs for people like me.
Anyway, a runners tale by Inukami There and Back Again at the stairs, my body, mainly my legs felt so heavy like someone behind me decided to get a piggyback ride on my back.
After the stairs the road this time was, well, like earlier only reversed which is to say the similar way of up-flat-down.
The water stations had sufficient supply of water this time for two, three maybe even four cups for one runner per station.
The steep slope near the Circa Hotel was another hard part for me.
I wanted to Time Leap like Konno Makoto in her final time leap at Toki wo Kakeru Shoujou but sadly Kawaranai Mono was not playing in the background, my leaps didn't produce any echoes and most importantly I can't travel back in time. That would really be cool. I'm sure Okabe would envy me.
Now then, back at the previous turning points of the 5k then 3k, I was sloppy for the majority of the return journey. But thanks to the warm-ups and breathing exercises, I didn't endure any side stitches.
So there walk, run, breath haaaa-heee-haaaa-heee then I found myself in front of the S.U. Building again.
A little more, just a bit further, and "Congratulations Kuya", said the finish line marshal as he handed me the certificate. FINISH!
My time was 86 minutes. The objective for us runners in PE-2 RUN class was 80 minutes but I have no reason to get disappointed. This is the longest run that I had so far.
10 km in 86 minutes. That's cool for me.
The return journey to my dorm was fine, I enjoyed a big cup of Taho from Kuya Mangtataho as I call him before going back.
Right now, I'm just typing while watching PewDiePie videos.
Who doesn't love PewDiePie anyway?
Well then, if you've read this far then I am really thankful. See ya in the next run!
