Mini DV Camera & Video Recorder

just compare the size of the camera with my grizzly hands
I think most of you readers are familiar with the world's (supposed) smallest camera called the Mini DV Camera.
I first learned about it three months ago when I was browsing for a portable camera that is extremely handy.
Well I got what I wanted and along with being extremely handy it is also extremely small, a lot smaller than how it looks like in pictures - much like McDonald's "Big" Mac.

I received a copy of the camera as sort of a Halloween gift from my aunt earlier this day.
At first, I had doubts about its authenticity and whether or not it really functions as a camera and video recorder.
I'm pretty sure most people who already purchased the said camera had the same reaction as I had upon opening the tin box - just imagine Brief's face at the bizarre twist on the last episode of Panty and Stocking with Gartebelt.

It actually looks like more of a toy than a functioning camera. It weighs 15 grams or so my sources say.
I had trouble switching it on after inspecting its external features...there were 2 buttons that act as Mode Select and On/Off button. There's a view finder which is, I think, is for aesthetic purposes only (look through it and all you'll see is the world of the blur). There's also a dent at the side for a lanyard and...well that's all.

It's charging time is awfully long for such a small device but the wait was definitely worth it because I was all too excited in using it. Cameras are really handy stuffs no matter the size.
I used a 2 gig micro SD card, (manual says it can handle up to 16 gig of external memory) and finally the problems arise after the first click.

I had to watch a video tutorial to get around the camera, it was simple enough but it's still tricky to get the right mode the you want.
The camera has 4 modes: picture taking, video recording, motion capture and voice recording (also works, but not mainly, as a storage medium).
sample photo, I was about four feet away from the target...Miku's so cute

I've only been using the camera for taking pictures since getting it to work earlier.
The picture quality is good for the size of the camera. The main problems are that there's no preview, no zoom, no foreground-background focus and no option to delete files without plugging in to a computer.

another sampler, still pretty good for a camera that small
Photos are saved as a jpeg file and ranges from 50-70 kb in size. It also comes with a time stamp which is initially wrong (in my case) but it can be easily replaced by editing the .txt file of the time stamp.

So here's a short run in in the pros and cons as summary:

Pros:
+ extremely handy and useful in most situations
+ doesn't need extravagant accessories
+ it's very lightweight and small so storage is not a problem

Cons:
- long recharging time (approx. 3 hours)
- battery is built in so it cannot be replaced
- doesn't have most necessary functions for taking photos
- it's easy to get lost in between which mode is currently on standby
