One of the Greats

From boxing to wrestling to MMA. Every fight is usually entertainment for the millions but a life-changing event for the fighters. It's not often do we see a clash so dramatic like it came out of an Academy award winning film. Just a few minutes ago, I was treated to an amazing match between Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva.

The event was UFC Fight Night 33. I wasn't expecting any big fights as there aren't any big time fighters often spotted on the limelight present in the event. The co-main event featured Shogun Rua (an oldie but goody, in my notes) against James Te Huna. The knockout win by Rua shouldn't come as a surprise but how he executed it was right off the bat. Still, even with a clean win it wasn't anything of a near epic match.

Then came the main event. I have yet to see two giants go head to head until the last round. Usually, heavyweight bouts would often conclude with a KO or a TKO, but Hunt vs. Bigfoot delivered. Their match was one of the greatest that I've witnessed. Two heavyweights battle it out until the final round, until all the gas has left the tank. I've never seen a match so gruesome but still emotional at the same time. Bigfoot's dangerous combos against Hunt's one punch knockout, both men gave everything they had. Ultimately, after five hard fought rounds, the match ends in a majority draw with the audience on their feet applauding not for Hunt or Silva but for both. There's actually no room for argument, Silva and Hunt both gave a stellar performance that deserves both of their names to be highlighted.

Probably the next fight that I'll watch that will (hopefully) come close to what Hunt vs. Silva gave is Weidman vs. Silva II.
