Summer Daze

I'm sure most students in the country should know by now about the academic calendar shift. I mentioned that topic a few times, those entries are probably buried deep within the abyss that is this blog by now though.
Because of the shift, the start of the school year shall be moved from June to August. As a result, we have an additional two months to do whatever we want without the bounds of academic responsibilities.

That's four months away from acads. Call me crazy for saying this but I really think that at some point between those four months, I will for surely miss the stress that academics bring. For now, though, I'll be doing my best to enjoy the vacation doing fun activities I could never fully enjoy during the school year.

Some of my seniors, batchmates and kouhai plan to take summer classes to remedy the two month rift between the previous natural order of the academic year. During summer classes, we are allowed to take at most 6 units worth of courses. Depending on the load, it could be comprised of two minor or major courses and an additional PE course which has 0 units. I also planned to take summer classes but the courses offered only match one of my current recommended courses. It's a win-win situation anyway whether I take summer classes or not, but the win situation in not taking summer classes is more rewarding basing it on the standards of rest and relaxation.

And so because of all those troublesome decisions and planning, I've come to the conclusion that I apply the programming knowledge that I've learned during the past semesters at the university in creating some useful "spine" programs over the course of the vacation.
If I stay motivated, I could also create some games using Java. I really need to polish my OOP skills especially attaching the logic of the program to an attractive GUI.

One way to keep myself motivated is to write about my progress and all the activities that I do everyday, counting the days of vacation.

Well since I don't have any girlfriend (or in any relationship at that matter) I might as well occasionally give bitter rants about how forever alone I am.

Basically it's just the same formula. Only this time, I'm obliging myself to do something productive during the period when I'm supposed to be hibernating, no really, four months of vacation, who'd not want to wrap themselves up on a cocoon?

It's not really summer so I don't think it's appropriate but the period of March to May has been conventionally known as "Summertime" in our country so I'll just go ahead and call the four months of vacation my Summer Daze.
