I'm still waiting for the Town Event "Memories" to trigger so I can finally proceed to Arc 3 of the game. Both Dylas and Amber are already level 7 in friendship/love but other Town Events keep occurring.
Here's all my current progress with RF4 during and after Arc 2:
Dylas the tsundere
Dylas |
Horsey here is playing hard to get especially if the friendship level with him is pretty low. Even at level 5 he's still all tsun and no dere, that's the thing that sets all fujoshis' hearts on fire. Lucky for Dylas I'm not a fan of yaoi but it looks like his friendly rivalry with Dough implies something else in the game.
yeah, deep inside they love each other |
A couple of weeks of giving homemade sashimi to Dylas will make him friendlier until he shows his dere side to you. When he does, he blushes and gives you a live fish as a thank-you gift implying that he wants you to make sashimi out of the fish.
Too bad you can't ride him...as a horse. Since he was, well, previously a horse. Yeah.
I've no problem with my Love-level with Amber. She's friendly and simply chatting with her can go a long way. But I still gave her flowers (particularly Toyherb), juice and her favorite: honey.
What's hard to get is the monster Amber was before she tranformed, an Ambrosia.
Taming an Ambrosia
Ambrosia |
Out of all the Arc 1 key characters, Amber's the only one who closely resembles her counterpart, Ambrosia is just a little creepy. She's the first boss in the game which makes it taming her a little difficult if done post-Arc 2. Why? Because one attack could send her biting the dust since you need the Ambrosia's 2nd form to tame her. Ambrosia only responds to Ultra Toyherb. I took my chance and only grew 12 pieces of Toyherb when I tamed her. Even with my current gold, I don't want to waste too much on a lot of Giantizer.
I used a sickle to bring out Ambrosia's second form. As she flew around the field, I brushed her first until it didn't give any more responses before I bombarded her with Ultra Toyherbs. I spent ten of my 12 Ultra Toyherbs before I finally got her to like me. And kids, that's how I met my Ambrosia.
The default name of the first Ambrosia you tame is Bless, I named mine Anjyu after a stupidly sad memory of the past.
Taming the Elemental Faeries
There are regular creepy looking faeries in the game and then there are the cute elemental faeries which are rare and hard to tame.
These faeries are named Green, Blue, Red and Yellow after their, yep you got it, colors and elements.
Green
The first elemental faerie that I encountered was a Green during my escapade at the Idra Cave. She wasn't a rare hostile monster that I happened to encounter by chance, rather she's a monster locked up somewhere in the Idra Cave by a pillar. By triggering the pillar, she will thank you and voluntarily join your party provided you still have a space in your barn. Unfortunately, I didn't so I had to use Escape until I arrived back in my room to issue an order to extend my first Barn.
Luckily when I returned to the area where I found her, she's still there waiting for me (d'awww) and joined my party. I named her Midori but I got a little rebellious for a while.
A Green's element is Wind, so naturally I thought I could finally ride a flying companion. And while I was able to ride Ambrosia, on Midori's case...
Green has been with me since Idra Cave and she's my strongest monster companion racking in a swarm of heavy hitting attacks. Taking her along Maya Road is not recommended, though.
Yellow
I used a sickle to bring out Ambrosia's second form. As she flew around the field, I brushed her first until it didn't give any more responses before I bombarded her with Ultra Toyherbs. I spent ten of my 12 Ultra Toyherbs before I finally got her to like me. And kids, that's how I met my Ambrosia.

Maybe Red's more appropriate... |
...nope |
I guess that's a...Weiss decision. YEAHHHH! (yeah I know it's pronounced with a v-sound) |
Yellow
I got the rest of the elemental faeries where they are most common - in mini-dungeons grown from seeds. The Yellow (Earth) elemental faerie was the most difficult to please. I had to spam her with all my turnips and strawberries but none of those worked. I even gave her all the potions in my bag but when those didn't work I had to go through all my other items. In the end, I gave her a Love Potion which I got in the same dungeon and finally got her to join me. A Yellow's attack consists of earth-element drills and spikes. She's more recommended for close to mid-range combat.
I named my Yellow Anna (because, well, banana)
Blue was kinder than Yellow. She joined my party after a couple of sweets and flowers. Her attacks consists of water spikes and bubbles. Some are slow but deals heavy damage, and one is ranged but has a pattern.
I named my Blue Aozu
Like Blue, taming Red was easier compared to Yellow. But it took me the longest because the first time I encountered her, Midori quickly charged in killing the Red. I had to traverse the same dungeon twice in search of another Red. All it took were a few strawberries (she's red, I got a feeling she'd like something red as well) to tame her. Her attacks are like the flame spells that can be found in-game, the only difference is that Red can spam the blasts and she also have multiple ember-like flames that charge in the enemy.
I named my Red Aka.
Here they are in my barn:
They kinda remind you of someone, don't they?
so I guess I should have been Jerry instead |
Amber's Dark side
Amber is the cutest and most bubbly of the four key characters you save in Arc 1. So it's natural if all she speaks about are flowers, and silly and innocent things that would make her cuter and even more of a lovable loli. What's not natural is the way she surprisingly spoke here (damn, even Lest wondered what's up):
Interactions
Rune Factory 4 isn't only about farm work, dating and adventure. The game also boasts one of the most humorous and dramatic individual encounters with the people of the town.
Even my most hated character (Dr. Jones) made me warm up to him after his town event which is shared with Arthur and Porcoline. Plus Nancy and Jones have that one special relationship that's unique to the town.
Forte's cooking has also been a hot topic in town for a while. While most people have hurtful comments about her cooking like "food that looks like coal", this one from Margareth gave me the most laughs:
And one final note, I forgot about this cap during the early parts of my playthrough in RF4:
Looks like the school girl voice of Venti is now understandable. Her human form is really cute and loli-er than amber it's turning me back into a lolicon. But how twisted would it have been if this was Venti's form when Ethelbert possessed her? Cute girl on the outside, vengeful old man with a long beard on the inside...*shivers*
I hope once Arc 3 ends, she can be an available companion.
...
Alright one final-final note. Dolce finally shows some skin!:
This is during one of the "Deliver Medicinal Herbs to X" requests. Dunno what she needs it for when she's sunbathing. The only other time I get to see her like that is in the bathhouse but I can't really talk to her in there.
