Half-ta la vista, baby

Get it? get it? Half-ta la vista because y'know, half and Gus was half burnt and the original phrase "Asta" rhymes with half- ah forget it.
Still, this scene gave me the chills. After two and a half seasons of torment, this guy finally goes down. Learning about his past made me appreciate the character as a "broken" man searching for revenge and not a simple antagonist with a shady background who looks friendly but hides a manipulative and terrifying nature behind his business smile.

I ran another watchathon this time with Breaking Bad. All the best bits really cluster up at the last two episodes. Way back in season 3, Walter went badass running over two of Gus men, shooting one of them and looking at Jesse dead in the eye saying only one word: Run.

But just when I thought Walter took the cake, Jesse and Gale stole it giving off a great season finale. It just felt so unsettling how the fate of Gale turned out to be. He was just so passionate at what he does, yet even when he tried his very best he ended up being Walty and Jesse's safety net. I just can't help but feel sorry for the guy.

I finished season four over the course of four days. It was hard sneaking up an episode during my free time because acad-mode means that free time should be used for, well, acads so technically it's not really that "free".

Anyway, the season is full of thrill, and eerie and unsettling images. I also found several heads up scenes before Gustav faced (yes pun intended) his end. Maybe it's just coincidence, but the people behind the camera are really mindful of things from angle, to shadings to position. Just take a look at Gus in these scenes (just before he met with Tio Salamance one last time):
Notice his face is either obscured or one side is always in the shadows. It's was vague but it pretty much sends the message. We already know that Walter was going to use a bomb anyway, we just had to know how and what was going to be the result.

There was also one for Walty, and I think it's a major spoiler for his fate at the end of the story. Everything in this scene was given an extra serving of creepiness. Walter's laughter, his coughing, the sound, the position of the camera, and the image it all formed...really creepy. It's in this scene where I got the impression that Walt's cancer was back. He never really spoke about it after one opening scene in the last half part of the third season. His reaction after the PET/CT scan was not happy.

I still have season 5 to go. His head and chin full of hair at the first episode was good news, the gorilla at the trunk of his newly purchased car wasn't. It all feels fresh actually. With the absence of Gus, the only enemy I could really think of now is Walter White, no, Heisenberg himself.
