I finally got my hands on a copy of Alpha Sapphire a week after its US release. Right now I'm still at the back of the truck ready to travel again in Hoenn!...Pikachu is also a cosplayer now for some reason, and in my copy she's an idol.
This is the first game I bought pre-ordered, and while there's really no difference in the game it does have a nice Kyogre figurine - it's also thanks to the packing of the figurine that finally convinced me it's read as KAI-YO-GER and not KIYO-GREH, the receipt also had it written in Romaji as "Kaiyouga". Interesting fact about Kyogre, its name is actually based on the animal that it closely resembles - a fish. I think it's also a pun with "Kyo" meaning "Big" in Japanese, and Kyo being close to "Gyo" meaning "Fish" so it's actually describing Kyogre as a big fish. However, that observation is a little weak since Kyo and Gyo have their own meanings, and "Sakana" is the more common term for Fish.
Anyway, like I said I haven't really played this game yet save for the opening necessities. I got chills running down my spine the moment the opening theme played. It gives me joy that Game Freak used a remastered opening theme of the original versions instead of making a new one. That's incredible nostalgia for you. They also played along with the whole 'remake' prospect by giving us Professor Birch's original opening monologue and turned it into the player watching him through the PokeNav(I assume it's the PokeNav) while giving a brief overview of 3D Hoenn.
As always we get to pick between two avatars after the famous question oblivious professors always ask - Are you a Boy or a Girl?. Keeping up with my tradition in playing Pokemon games (and because Haruka is one of my many, many waifus) I picked the female avatar and gave her the same name I gave Serena in Pokemon X, Sami.
Well then, that's all I have right now. I don't think I'd be progressing much with Alpha Sapphire just yet since it's still hell week. I'll keep this blog updated in my Hoenn adventure once I get a little breather from all this academic pain. Now if you'd excuse me I'm going to catch me some Pokemon before getting back to my GAS exercise.
