Pro tip: If you'd like to skip this overly long intro, the main post is below the first photo.
Y'know one of the perks of having your birthday close to Christmas is that sometimes you receive two gifts in one month. Gift giving is not obligatory but still we keep up with the tradition to show our love to each other, no matter the contents of the neatly wrapped box - whether a severed head that should have been for Halloween or next year's calendar - it's always nice to give and receive, the latter being my specialty.

Anyway like I said in this post I am all out of spending money until the semester after next semester because I have drained my pool of allowance even before it is filled. I regret nothing for now. My grandmother, however, gave me some ka-ching as my Christmas gift so yeah my resources got replenished and what did I do? I bought another game...and another controller.
I was in internal conflict with myself as I scanned the shelves of Data Blitz, Marquee Mall weighing down the greatness factor of Bayonetta 2 and Smash for WiiU. I've been eyeing Bayonetta 2 for a while now because Bayonetta 1 is included so two for the price of one (provided I'm still eyeing the first edition release), plus I've heard a lot of people saying Bayonetta 2, though a sleeper hit, is a sure candidate for game of the year, but then again so is Smash WiiU. The only problem is I already played Smash 4 on the 3DS so I already know the experience, the gameplay and I've technically seen it all even if I haven't completed it 100%.. It was a tough decision but either way I was going to get a Pro Controller. Anyway, in the end I decided to get Smash WiiU simply because I have no time to complete Bayonetta 2 since I already have two Zelda games on my hands. The title is next on my hitlist though so I have three games to save up for next year - Zelda 2015, Majora's Mask, and Bayonetta 2...I also have to study a lot and raise my grades, yeah.
It was a fun trip to Data Blitz yesterday. The staff was nice and they even suggested getting the White Pro Controller as it's cheaper than the Black Pro Controller. But forgive me for doing this because I think it's really funny and magnificently bad it's almost as if it was intentional, anyway someone has to point it out. During the holiday season, most stores use special bags when you make a purchase. The paper bag or box that contains your item could be a specially wrapped box, a cute storage box or a uniquely designed paper bag, Data Blitz used a "uniquely" designed paper bag using Smash WiiU's box art.
Here you go:
Where to start with this historical masterpiece?
Alright, let's go through this one by one, and in case I still need to point it out the original box art is on the right, the Data Blitz edit is the on the left.
Mario and the flying 'stache
Ok, it's obvious this one is Mario, but really? They removed his cap and the mustache, two of Mario's most iconic attributes, so it's alright no copyright infringement intended but why, WHY put the mustache just below him, is that a flying mustache? What purpose does it serve other than to give away the magnificent editing?
Luigi, the Hero of Time and his flying 'stache
They really don't want to give up on the flying mustache, eh? But this one is a bit...ugh. They took Link's body, replaced the head with Luigi minus his mustache and gave him a cane in place of the Master Sword. Why, just why dear Hylia.
Rudolph the red nose Pikachu...Pikadolph? Rudokachu?
They really went out of their way to edit this. Just look, they erased Pikachu's face and replaced it with what I assume to be a ready made face template in a photo editing software. They also added two antlers to further convince us that that's not Pikachu, that's Pikadolph.
This is actually alright for me since Pikachu is one of the fighters I really hate in Smash so edit away!
King Dedede? Nope, this is Emperor Kirby
I'm actually forcing this joke here because there's a species of Penguins called Emperor and I think it's appropriate for Kirby to be called Emperor because his constant nemesis is King Dedede...on to the next one!
Miku Pitsune
I don't know how they got away with this as Miku is a property of Crypton Future Media, Sega and Yamaha (if I'm not mistaken), still Miku is open for everyone with the software but that design is something you'd see in Project Diva. Anyway why Miku? It doesn't make sense. But then again so does the rest of the paper bag.
Villager...I don't even
Forgive my lack of knowledge in western cartoons because I really don't know what to say with this one.
Wii Fit Fairy
Have you ever trained your body so hard you turned into a fairy? Wii Fit Trainer has!
Yeti Kong
There's a new game in the Kong franchise, Yeti Kong Summit! Scale the Tibetan plateau with Donkey Kong's bro which is really just him bathed in white paint and a Santa hat.
Princess (Toad)Stool
My god Peach what did Bowser do to you the last time he kidnapped you?
Well anyway, the fact that Data Blitz used or, more accurately, modeled their paper bag design after Smash just proves the game's fame throughout the gaming community.
I wish I had their paper bag last year so I could make a comparison, anyway as far as I can remember last year's design was better.
Well then time for some Smash!
