There's still pretty much to discover post-game in Pokemon X. The game never really stops its bundle of surprises as by the time someone has captured, bred or traded all 700+ Pokemons it's likely that a new version has been made available already.
Post-game starts immediately after the surprising battle with AZ. It's like fighting Genesis after going through Minerva in Crisis Core.
As I went through Kalos collecting badges and spending a great amount of quality time with my pokemon there were those recurring closed off places that would either be a place reserved for trainers who defeated the Champion or finished the main game (both are actually just the same).
After the end credits rolled, my trainer and I found ourselves back at their house at Vaniville Town.
I take my first step out of the house and I find Shauna there hoping to trade one of her Chespin for any of my Pokemon. I agreed to trade and gave her my Sylveon. Now before a lot of you question my decision in trading away a diamond in the rough, I've already held a definite affection for the NPCs in the game. Their interactions with the player surpasses previous rivalry/friendship from past generations. Each of the player's closest friends have their own characters and purpose in the story.
After trading with Shauna I met up with professor Augustine Sycamore (I just felt like italicizing his name seems befitting of his character) at the Lumiose station. The two white masked heroes of professor Sycamore appeared with their usual entry behind the player and updated her pokedex into a National Pokedex. Huh, another surprise, now you don't have to see all the Pokemon in Kalos to obtain the National Pokedex.
Anyway, professor Sycamore gave a TMV pass so that I can go to Kiloude City.
Kiloude City
A kind, sweet and exquisite city
My adventure at this city was short. I only had a short stint at the Battle Maison besting 5 consecutive trainers in double battles with my Delhpox and Blastoise. It's actually pretty hard to keep at it until a hundred battles since there's no experience points, no cash prize and each win is worth only 1 BP. After the Battle Maison, I battled with my rival next. His party now included a Clefairy and an Absol that can now Mega Evolve. This time he gave me a hard time and only pulled through with an unusual Hydro Cannon win. Still, it was my first time seeing a mega evolved Absol and the design was even cooler than Lucario's.
After the battle, Calem tells me that professor Augustine Sycamore wanted to see me again this time at the Sundial in Anistar city. Another story relevant scenario occurred and my character's power ring was upgraded. Now I can find mega stones scattered everywhere. But it's the history behind these stones that intrigued me.
It's like the story writers of Pokemon X planned all these from the very beginning. While all was still vague implications, the possible origins of these mega stones came from the semi-rare fire stones, leaf stones etc.
It was a solid explanation that gave the mega stones a harder background and less convenient in the story, it was given more importance than mere power-ups.
Wonder Trade and the PSS
Pokemon X had a bundle of new in-game mechanics as well as player interactions. While I was already aware of these new features in the beginning, I didn't take the time to use any of them early on. It was only then after the main game where I updated my PSS profile, attempted to trade and used Wonder Trade.
I used Wonder Trade first and it was actually a thrilling joy ride not knowing who you're going to get after trading off one of your beloved pokemon.
In the process of Wonder Trade, I gave away my Aurorus and Skiddo, and received a Probopass and an Absol. I'm actually excited to train with them but with the current state of my pokemon and in-game experience compared to the hardwork of the passersby that I met in the PSS, I'm still just a toddler. There were trainers from around the world who spent practically everyday playing Pokemon X since its release. There were 200 and even 400+ hours of total gameplay while I only have 34 and counting.
I attempted to trade with one of the pokemon trainers listed in my acquaintance list but since I've still yet to collect many rare pokemons, things didn't go as how I'd imagined it'd be. A lot of trainers would love to be friends but parting with a pokemon after so long and giving it to a stranger is indeed serious business.
Come to think of it, it's only now when I became really serious in immersing myself with the full experience of Pokemon. All from capturing to trading to breeding, it's a never ending bundle of joy and adventure.
Start of a new journey
I'm still new to breeding even if it was introduced way back in gen. II. I never put really much thought into it but breeding can be a crucial part of post-game challenges as well as future endeavors in the following generations. I've never put much heart into my pokemons as live beings, just mere friends traveling with me, now I that I am it's a whole different experience again. Like I said, Pokemon is a never ending adventure.
I journeyed back to the wonderful Snowbelle City and to the Pokemon Village. The Unknown Cave has finally been cleared and like the cave back at Cerulean City, it houses Mewtwo. There was no story behind Mewtwo being in the cave or whether it is story relevant. This counts as my first time in battling and capturing Mewtwo. Call it a miracle or what but it only took me one soft reset, a few thunderbolts and one Dusk Ball to capture the legendary Pokemon. In the process of going to the Unknown Cave, I've also captured a Zoroark and a Jigglypuff.
The Jigglypuff that I captured (at level 50, mind you) was the one I traded off to Diantha to obtain a Ralts with a modest nature. Ralts was one of my overall favorite pokemon since gen. 3 and seeing here evolve to Kirlia and Gardevoir is like watching a child slowly grow into a beautiful maiden. Gardevoir remains to be one of the most elegant and beautiful pokemon I set my pokedex on.
That's it for post-game adventures. I'm relieving my eyes and hands by eating ice cream. Well it's not that healthy plus I already ate quite a lot (a lot more than I can handle) over the holidays. I know I've put up a few pounds but some rounds at the oval would get me back into shape (not like I was previously).
