The Missing Link

What if the hero you believe in is also the enemy that must be destroyed?

It's almost becoming a tradition of mine to make fan theories of the latest game that I complete.
This time the game on the hot seat is the Legend of Zelda.

The franchise's latest outing for the 3DS is The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It follows the story of A Link to the Past after six generations. It kept the same ol' formula while still featuring some new fresh mechanics that makes it a solid entry to the series.
However, would it hurt if Nintendo diverted from the norm of Zelda?

In 2011, we were given the first story, the origin and trigger for all the stories told in all Zelda titles. Skyward Sword was the beginning of the story of Zelda, Link and Ghirahim that would span across generations of struggle against evil.
Because of Skyward Sword, we are led to believe that for every Hyrule there is a Princess Zelda, and for every Princess Zelda there is a hero named Link, and for every Zelda and Link there will always be a form of evil ready to take control of the world.

But is it possible for a Princess Zelda to be born and rule Hyrule without a Link?
Is it possible for Princess Zelda to exist without the hero who possesses the Triforce of Courage?
These are just questions that I suddenly asked myself as I wrote my review about A Link Between Worlds. Link has always been there to save Zelda, Hyrule and all the goodness of the world involved from the evil hands of the incarnations of Ghirahim. However, what if Link didn't exist on a certain timeline where Zelda and Ganon exist?
In that case, I believe the Triforce of Courage would either fall into Ganon or Zelda's hands with the one possessing two triforces gaining the upper hand. But then again, what is a Zelda title without Link?

My theory might be inconsistent in most parts but it's not uncommon for the hero to also be the villain in some games. I'm saying that what if Link ends up being both the hero and villain of the same game?
Soma Cruz of Castlevania was the main character of his game and we learn later on that he is Dracula himself.
So there might be a possibility for a timeline to exist within the universe of Zelda that features Link as his own enemy.

What do you guys think?
