Sudden Turn-ip of Events

Yeah I suck at puns.

Rune Factory 4 is now the longest software that I've played in the 3DS, it's also first place on Average Playtime. Well I can't really blame the system's statistics since the game is just damn good.

as of this afternoon, while in the bathroom
I've finished the second arc now. The Sechs gave me a damn hard time in their floating empire. Still, even with my level when I finished it (level 120) I managed to get through all the remaining boss fights thanks to the kind Green that voluntarily joined your party when you save her at Idra Cave. I thought her joining was a part of the plot but it's just sort of a gift from the game. I love it!

Her default name is Green but keeping with my naming traditions I, instead, named her Midori. So far she's been extremely helpful with the rest of Idra Cave. I struggled with her a bit on Maya Road since her element is the same as most of the monsters on the area (wind). Fiergaenger was a tough fight but not necessarily a tough boss. His attacks were bearable and easy to doge. Perhaps the a, the area was just small and I used a fire elemental short sword to fight a fire elemental dragon (yep, that's called playing in voluntarily high difficulty). My forging skill was low by that time and I sold all of my past weapons so I basically depended on the sheer power of Midori (Green) and Silph (Silver Wolf).

Fiergaenger
After conquering the short but extremely frustrating Maya Road, it's finally time to brave the Sechs Territory, where it's always winter. Since it's one of the last dungeons in the game I'm glad that it's bigger than Maya Road plus there's an unlockable area in the dungeon post-timeskip so there's still more to it than the progression of Arc 2.

Early in the Sechs Territory progress, I encountered a Silver Wolf that's not hostile. Weiss (my character) even said that "Huh, you're not going to attack me?" near the Silver Wolf. He seemed a little lethargic anyway so lucky for him I had the good heart of feeding him sashimi (why sashimi you ask, well treasure chests are rather random). As with the Green from Idra Cave, the Silver Wolf immediately became a friendly monster (with a high level at that) and it voluntarily joined your party. I named him Fenrir.

Aquameleon was an annoying boss to handle because it moved a lot and it flew outside of the area. A short sword is not ideal for this battle but I also like to live dangerously so I kept up with my flame-element short sword (not the exact name). After Sechs Territory, the story will advance towards the final part of Arc 2 which takes place at the Floating Empire.

The Floating Empire is probably the most annoying dungeon of Arc 2 (obviously). There's a sudden difficulty spike here and it's not recommended to brave the dungeon alone. It took me the whole Fall and half of Winter to finally conquer and complete the map.

The Floating Empire has three locations (east, west and south) each with switches that needs to be triggered to open the main gate leading to Ethelbert. The west part was easiest for me, followed by the south and finally the east. Each area have their own sub-boss. After triggering all three switches for the main gate, it's time for the final battle against Ethelbert.
More like Ethel-BEARD to me
The boss fight with Ethelbert has three rounds. One will be the standard boss fight where he's showcasing his ability. He's really an annoying opponent because he teleports a lot and he has a super move which can bring insta-kill if not avoided (which is pretty much impossible if you stay on the main arena). To avoid his super move, run towards any of the four corners of the arena where it will teleport you to the opposite side. It's best to pick the corner where Ethelbert is the opposite so you can get behind him and snatch in a couple of free hits while he executes his move.

The second round will be separated into two parts, one will be with an overpowered Ethelbert where there's really no point of fighting him because dying in this part is required to advance the plot. In part two, Venti will join the battle. In part two, if ever you have any allied monsters with you (I had my Green and Yellow with me) they will be replaced instead by Venti. Venti is a strong ally. Her attacks go up to a five-thousand and her defense is unbreakable. The problem is, my character was't. He was just healed by Venti before the battle and he'll be healed again if he faints. In the second round, Venti did all the work this time.

In the third round, Ethelbert will fuse with Venti to form ETHELWILL, another overpowered boss which I for surely could not defeat at that time. It's in this round where the residents of the town of Selphia will join their powers and prayers at the areas where the Rune Spheres are located to strengthen Lest and practically overpower him as well.

with their powers combined, Lest is...Captain Selphia! or Norad whatever
The last battle will be at a distorted place against a transformed ETHELWILL. This last fight was a long fight but not really the hardest since Lest's stats are given a big boost. Hack and slash away to victory until the battle is over. Lest has won and Ethelbert dissolves into the Forest of Beginnings still believing in his own delusions.
The credits will roll pretty much in the same way as that of the first Arc when Lest and Venti leave Leon Karnak. Watch out for Xiao Pai tripping and falling face first in the grass.
The epilogue of Arc 2 will be a party at Porcoline's restaurant. Lest and Venti will share one last dramatic conversation before Venti herself dissolves into the Forest of Beginnings. A year of lamentation will pass (this will be the first timeskip) which will feature Lest's monologue as the seasons pass until a full year has passed since Venti disappeared.
waiting for Venti
After the epilogue, you're free to do anything again. But do take note, there's still Arc 3 which is really taking me ages to trigger.
