Gaming Report: Smash Record 1

I've racked in 42 hours of gameplay since buying the game earlier this month. Within that time I've unlocked all secret characters, all stages, practiced enough to call Zero Suit Samus my main, played against friends and other gamers from around the world with so much lag, and basically etched away some of the stress brought in by academics...and the fun thing about all these is that there's still so much to do with those 49 fighters (even if I have a personal grudge against some of them).

Anyway, I've compiled a list of all my personal records/achievements (and whys) since playing the game for the first time. Why a list? Because everyone loves lists! And it helps me type faster because my Wifi pocket device's battery is running low.

And like I said before, there are no octagons, but here we go!

Main: Zero Suit Samus
The first lady of gaming (I know that's still debatable for Princess Toadstool and Lara Croft) has everything I want in a fighter: speed, good aerial move set, a paralyzer/plasma whip, rocket powered footwear, and a gunship. Awesome...though the Gunship final smash isn't that remarkable, really.
I trained with plenty of Level 9 CPUs to hone my skills with ZS-Samus after I saw just how good and "slippery" (as in fast and agile, alright?) a fighter Samus is during my first ever For Glory match which ended in such an embarrassing defeat - I used Little Mac against a fellow gamer who was using Zero Suit Samus, I suffered an SD and an easy KO whereas my enemy didn't even got hit. So I got along a lot with ZSS having plenty of surprise KOs along the way (tip: her flip-jump is especially powerful, Down Special).

Secondaries: Sonic, Little Mac, Mii Brawler, Kirby, Toon Link and Link
Before Zero Suit Samus became my favorite, I have Little Mac as my main fighter but thanks to an article from Kotaku and a few fights in For Glory mode with Little Mac I was convinced that Little Mac is made for on-the-ground hit-and-run tactic. His poor aerial mobility and abilities gave me more losses via Self Destruct than actual KO's from opponents.

I play with Sonic the way I play with Samus (why does that sound so wrong?) only Sonic's a little faster and hard to control when he's spinning around going through each enemy. Sonic comes second in Self Destructs after Little Mac.

Kirby is like the Ditto of Smash thanks to his Inhale. I get thrown a lot as Kirby, in compensation for that he can float around five times (?) to save himself from a KO. Kirby is fast as well but most of his attacks/specials are all incredibly short ranged. His Final Smash is a spectacle though rivaling Link and Toon Link's Triforce Slash.

Link and Toon Link differ in speed, how they execute their moves and I think Link is stronger than his toon version. They're both enjoyable to play being veterans with familiar move sets...plus they wield the Master Sword but they don't have any counter moves as with the Fire Emblem swordsmen (excluding Robin) and Xenoblade's Shulk.

Needs Improvement: Robin, Lucina, Ike, Sheik, Pit, Villager and Shulk
I really like wielding a sword but these fighters are so slow they'd do better if they just waited for the opponent to come to them, or maybe I just get a weird feeling every time I switch from ZSS (a fast fighter) to one of those Fire Emblem fighters they always feel heavier than usual.
Thora!(...the explorer...sorry I just had to)
Despite being the same, I enjoy fighting as female Robin instead of her default version simply because she's a hella lot cuter and her voice sounds more fitting to the mage + sword combo.
Robin relies more on her magic to create a good distance from the opponent before she starts pummeling them with her (surprisingly strong) normal attacks. The offside of her strength is that her tomes and sword have a stamina system and will "break" after a set time of use - but they do respawn a few seconds after.
Robin's Final Smash - Pair Up
What I especially like about Robin is her final smash Pair Up. She calls out Chrom to, well, pair up and basically decimate the opponent. The way she yells BOLGANONE! gets me every time.

Lucina is probably the most unnecessary addition to the roster as a separate fighter since she's an exact copy of Marth. But I'd choose her over Marth of course, however wouldn't it be much better if she was a palette swap for Marth (or vice-versa) instead of being a separate fighter. She's one of my options for a fighter aside from my main and secondaries simply because she has a sword.

Ike is also there because he's just damn strong.

Shulk on the other hand is a fun character to play with thanks to his Monado Arts and his cool looking sword. I haven't played Xenoblade before but just by playing him I think it might be a good game...I just hope the 3DS port isn't New 3DS exclusive.

Villager is one of the most unusual addition to the roster. I mean, he's a peaceful loving guy from such a peaceful game so why make him plant a tree just to cut it down to KO an opponent?
Villager is a heck of a lot stronger with great aerial recovery. His special attacks are very powerful if timed correctly, which led me to a glorious victory against Master Hand in Classic mode.

Sheik is fast but her moveset requires too much accuracy to fight efficiently with her. The only reason I have for wanting to improve on her is because I want to fight with Zelda in some way without actually using Princess Zelda in the roster (there's a sixteen year old spoiler alert).

Pit's difficult control scheme is back from Kid Icarus Uprising, but in a different way. I just thought that if I succeeded with Pit in KI:U then I most likely can succeed with him in SSB4. Plus it's always nice to see him get knocked around the stage even if he's your fighter (same goes for Dark Pit).

Favorite Assist Trophy: Phosphora the Lightning Flash
Worst Assist Trophy: The f*cking Nintendog. Which part of it was the assist?!

First Character Used: Toon Link

First Match: Toon Link vs. Marth

Annoying Lv. 9 CPUs: Wario, Captain Falcon, King Dedede, Diddy Kong, Sonic, and Duck Hunt
These fighters were the very bane of my progress with Zero Suit Samus. I understand losing, but somehow it feels so embarrassing to lose to these characters especially Wario and that damn monkey Diddy Kong.
For some reason every time I fight Capt. Falcon at Level 9 he keeps spamming his damn "Fawcon Pawwwnch" it's easy to dodge, yeah but not every damn time.

Best Final Smashes: Pit's Three Sacred Treasures, Robin's Pair Up!, Mii Brawler, Mega Man, Link and Toon Link's Triforce Slash
While some of the Final Smashes just suddenly come out of the blue, those listed above are in my opinion the best among the roster.
Pit's Three Sacred Treasures are honestly better used here than in the actual fight against Medusa. Although the fact that it's fixed here again (even if SMASH isn't canon to any of the series) could probably be Mr. Sakurai implying that the 25 years of wait for the next KI would be at shorter...right, Mr. Sakurai?

Robin's Pair Up is probably my most replayed Final Smash because I go to training mode just to see it on repeat. I use female Robin every time because it just feels more natural for her to fight with Chrom (oh yehehehehs they belong together). The way Robin shouts Bolganone! also keeps sending chills running down my spine.

I haven't tried the Mii Swordsman and Mii Gunner yet, but with Mii Brawler I think the developers did a fine job with their final smash. A flurry of kick and punches that lasts more than five seconds is heavenly glorious.

Mega Man's final smash, Mega Legends, is a trip down memory lane with a nostalgia pitch coming from his many incarnations (alright, four of them). So we have the original Mega Man, X, Netto, Subaru and Mega Man Volnutt. I think we can all agree that Mega Man has the best final smash in the whole roster, and that alone revived my interest in the Blue Bomber.
Mega Legends
I still have loads to type in but these should do for now. Actually, there really are no records here, just personal preferences. I doubt anyone would be interested in my GSP and Win-Loss record, but if I found the time maybe I will post about it.
However, for the sake of content I won't be posting Smash Record 2 anytime soon.
Enjoy Brawling!
