Originally this post was only going to be about Wednesday but seeing as how the rest of the week had been so unkind to me let's talk about all of it instead.
Well anyway, I've met the stress of Hell Week face to (figurative) face for the last time on Wednesday as I, along with my fellow ComSci students, tackled projects presentations and final exams. I started off the day with an exam because who wouldn't want to, you get what I'm saying? Who needs cereal when you can have a fifty-item exam for breakfast? It's so sweet and delicious my head started to ache. After the exam I had three project presentations starting at 2:30.
First was for CMSC 100: Web Programming. Our project was a Checklist Generator specifically for students with a BS Computer Science degree in the University. Yep, it's THAT degree! It's my degree, and a lot of people's degree: BS ComSci, where dreams literally die because you won't sleep for the majority of your hellish life as a college undergrad.
Anyway, I enjoyed working with our group in CMSC 100. The scent of Henlin's special meat bun and brisket rice will forever remain in my amygdala. We nailed most of the required feature with our only drawback being, well, a required feature in the Admin side of the application. But we got a high grade so, yeah.
Our second presentation was in CMSC 127: File Processing and Database Systems. I gotta say out of all the projects that I worked on this semester, I spent the most time here in our Event Reservation project. Just configuring the damn Postgresql to work with wampp took us three hours. Three hours that could have been spent watching video's from PuhBuhGuh's channel (PeanutButterGamer, check it out. He covers a wide range of gaming trends from the past up to the latest, plus he loves Zelda! He's a Zelda bro!!).
Right, so our group got to present around 3:10. There were changes made just hours before the presentation and we were lucky we got that to work. Yep, it was fun!
Last was the critical hit - CMSC 124: Design and Implementation of Programming Languages. I went solo with this project and it turned out better than I hoped (I got a 44. Two more 4's and it's Death's HP in Castlevania). T'was probably a good thing that the project presentation was to our lab instructors now, originally it was supposed to be a panel of the all the course's lab instructors and our lecturer in the course. Apparently, the longer the course title the harder it is, it would seem.
Once I finished my presentation the day for me was over. One long exam and three project presentations all within the day. It took a lot out of me, well normally it wouldn't, but thanks to my lack of sleepy time I felt sluggish and very worn out like a rug sponge...a rug sponge yeah.
The daze only caught up to me once I got home - y'know the same feeling after walking around almost the whole day in an anime convention, the only difference here is that I found little to no joy during the day but the sense of accomplishment that I got once I took a breather more than makes up for my exhaustion. But my problems were just starting to end that day. The following day, Thursday, I have another final exam 7:00 - 9:00 AM, lovely. And to make my situation worse I still need to refresh my knowledge on all topics. ALL TOPICS.

There were about 500 slides overall but I got it covered. I had a plenty of time to study for the rest of the day because I friggin' didn't sleep again. That was the first time in a long while that I traded sleep for an all-nighter study session and I have never been so unsure of my answers ever. Mental block due to lack of sleep, due to too much mental stress I dunno what else to call it but I was extremely tired the exam paper was like a silent lullaby to me.
After the exam I went home, planted myself on my bed and forgot that the world existed for four hours. But, yes I still had a couple of things to do that were due the following day.
I woke up in the afternoon still magnificently stressed out but I had no choice, there was still the final wave. And what are these last requirements inside the final wave? A computer graphics project and another final exam...really I am a veteran at this.
My web graphics project was to render a model of Grande Arche de la Defense using WebGL. But here's a funny story when our instructor asked us what model we wanted I wrote Arch of la Defense but I got the names mixed up because the model that was on my mind was really Arc de Triomphe. Perhaps it was a stroke of luck that I got them mixed up because with my current skill in WebGL I doubt I would've gotten far with Arc de Triomphe. Well, it's not like my project went to great lengths with Arche de la Defense anyway so I guess it was all the same in the end.
yes, this is Grande Arche get over it |
I probably worked on it longer than I needed to because really just staring at the codes that we've been using as examples for the majority of the semester and expecting a sudden miracle to happen that would make me understand it on a whim was just another name for 'wasting time'.
Meanwhile as I struggled with WebGL half of my fatigued brain was focused on studying Assembly Programming yet again, but since I already experienced taking the final exam under the same instructor last semester I assumed it was going to be at the same difficulty so I was pretty lax when I reviewed the lessons. I was wrong, I was very wrong. Although the difficulty spike wasn't insane, I was not expecting it to be as hard as it was.
Anyway, I got those two over earlier this day. Now I'm just trying to be happy because there's a long stretch of R&R until the next semester starts.
It really is nice to see a To-Do list 100% cleared after a hard fought Hell Week.
Oh, by the Goddess Hylia...
Oh no...
