Every journey begins by getting out of bed...or just getting up in general. |
I traded my supposed rest time yesterday morning for game time racking in my first three hours of real gameplay with Yuwii. Within that time I've cleared World 1 of Super Mario 3D World using Mario, Peach and Luigi, and I gotta say Peach is hella haaaawt both in her Fire Flower and Neko Bell power up. The worlds in 3D World are way above those in 3D Land though I suppose that's a given since the WiiU is far superior in terms of hardware performance compared to the 3DS. I enjoyed the courses of each world mainly because they packed in challenge and fun together - something I have not seen in the 3DS Mario platformer titles (NSMB2 and 3D Land). Last I enjoyed a Mario game this much was when I played Super Mario 64 DS. But really part of the challenge are my shaking hands. The gamepad is one hell of a tank. If the 3DS and all other handheld consoles that I've played are sexy beasts, the WiiU Gamepad is the Hulk. But I'll talk about that on another post.
I'm currently in the Forsaken Fortress in Wind Waker where Link is on a solo raid to save his adorable sister, Aryll. My progress here would've been much farther if it wasn't for my stupidity back in Outset Island. Apparently I was too busy taking pictures of the screen for the post benefit of this blog that I sometimes miss key events or cutscenes happening in the game. The first mission in the game, which is to go to Link's house to meet his and Aryll's grandmother, was given by Aryll in Link's introductory scene. I missed the cutscene where the game shows which of the houses in the island is Link's. I went back and forth all houses, trained in the basics of fencing, learned how to roll, caught three pigs and gave it to one of the NPCs, and broke a lot of pot...and I still haven't seen grandma. Turns out the house that I kept revisiting (the one near a mailbox) was indeed Link's house I just had to climb the ladder to trigger the event.
I finally got the adventure going once Link received the Hero's Clothes.
Going back to Aryll on her lookout triggers the next cutscene which is Tetra's introduction. This is all too memorable for me! My memories playing Phantom Hourglass suddenly hit me in the feels, traversing the great sea again, playing as cel-shaded Link. His expressions in this game makes Link seem more of a child than his Ocarina of Time counterpart. Just look at him here:
That's how he looks at the guy who teaches him the art of fencing. What the heck Link? Was he too tough on you?
Anyway, the adventure really starts when Link joins Tetra's crew after Aryll is kidnapped.
Link's departure from Outset Island hit me right in the feels again. Wind Waker really packs in a lot of emotions tugging my heartstrings ready to snap 'em all, and it's just the start. Even Link's silent departure from Kokiri Forest, bidding a small but sweet farewell to Saria pales in comparison to his farewell in Wind Waker mainly because Link isn't travelling as far and he and Saria has a way of communicating with each other, whereas Link in Wind Waker leaves everything behind all for his sister...*sobs*, he's such a great big brother.
this scene plus Link's departure really hit me |
Like I said, I'm still in the Forsaken Fortress ready to save Aryll. I've destroyed all the Bokoblin...using a stick. Yeah, never underestimate the sheer power of a piece of stick. It took me a while to disable all the searchlights. Turns out getting caught by the Moblins was an easier way to get to certain areas in the fortress. I've saved my progress right below where Aryll is, although knowing Zelda I'm pretty sure I'd start at the entrance of the fortress again but no worries, I dropped the box earlier. Ha!
