Bayonetta Part 3: Stones everywhere

My current progress in Bayonetta puts me at the start of Chapter 6: The Gates of Paradise. So, how was my progress in chapter 3, 4, and 5 then? Well...

Chapter 3: The Burning Ground currently holds the crown for giving me the most deaths on the first verse. Since I enjoy aggressive hack-and-slash I pay no heed to what hazards my enemies have as long as I properly dodge them, that's kind of a reasonable strategy though not the most effective. However, the Affinities in the first verse aren't just the regular simpletons as they're smoking hot this time, literally. True to its title this chapter's theme was all about fire and lava...as if Bayonetta wasn't hot enough, c'mon!
I'm not quite sure why this level is suddenly flaming hot since before chapter 2 ended and before the first verse of chapter 3 began Vigrid was chill, no signs of volcanic activity anywhere. But then Bayonetta had to say this on Fortitudo's face so I'm guessing Fortitudo, a holy being, got burned over a remark over how hideous he looks so in retaliation he also burned Bayonetta, well at least he tried to. Here's what Bayonetta said:
Anyway, most of the enemies in this chapter were engulfed in flames so randomly hitting them with melee attacks won't do as it will hurt my lovely Bayonetta. The only effective way to deal massive damage to these angels is through Witch Time which is activated by dodging an incoming attack at the last second, welp. The first verse wasn't all that long but, heh, I couldn't get the timing right and so Bayonetta suffered the consequences of my mistakes. Moving on! Past the flaming hot angels was another more frustrating challenge, race against lava, because you can't have fire levels without friggin' lava chasing you. The difficulty of this level (which is really just Normal) was upped a notch thanks to Witch Walk playing a part in most verses where you run from the lava, and to add more insalt (heh, insalt, get it, salt) to the upcoming wounds there are also Qfriggin'TEs sunuva houndoom. Past the lethal lava stages, we get to a more pedestrian-friendly stage, the Vigrid Catacombs.
While there''s still lava in this stage it's more focused on some easy peasy puzzle solving that's probably not really a puzzle. To progress through the area we need to get past a sea of lava but since the bridge was conveniently destroyed we, insteadm enter a Stargate portal to Paradiso, and I gotta say the presentation was indeed a paradise. Look, just look!
True to the concept of Bayonetta's Trinity of Realms, each realm are simply layers of different worlds with similar structure but different compositions. Back in Vigrid Catacombs the place was all lava, ashes and black earth, it's the same in Paradiso but the lava is water, the ashes are feathers and overall the ambiance is so peaceful if there was a fast internet connection there I'd never leave.
The hourglass was introduced in the Garden of Light, while carrying the hourglass Bayonetta cannot attack, although dodging is possible. The hourglass is used to turn back the sands of time ala Prince of Persia. So there, we got the bridge back!
The rest of the chapter was run and dodge until we finally get outside of the catacombs and on to a place called the Coliseum which surprisingly looks like a Colosseum, heh.
ahh! the light
I forgot to capture my award in this chapter but it should be obvious to y'all by now that all I've been getting since the second chapter were Stone statues.

Chapter 4: The Cardinal Virtue of Fortitude is currently the shortest chapter I cleared based on the area and objective.
It's basically a boss fight against the boss that has been bossing you around since Chapter 1, Fortitudo. This boss fight was epic! And by that I mean I didn't die but I had no clue what I should have been doing half the time. The area was big for the boss fight so I had the freedom to run and dodge unlike in the previous chapters where Fortitudo butts in. I found it difficult to deal some damage with the Shuraba so I switched to the Kulshedra which has a farther reach. This boss fight had three parts, one for each of the dragon heads, and one for the face (or body) of Fortitudo. The first two parts were harder, at least I think so, because of the large area and a multitude of QTEs. When these QTEs are nailed perfectly, though, Bayonetta climaxes and rips off the dragon heads one at a time.

The last part didn't require much effort (at Normal difficulty, mind you) because its attacks are much more predictable. A few more combos did him good and Bayonetta executes one final climax to tear a hole right through Fortitudo's face. The plot gets thicker at this point and finally it makes a mention of something about upcoming events than solely dwelling on Bayonetta's past.

Chapter 5: The Lost Holy Grounds was another frustratingly difficult chapter. I died five times on a basic platforming area that didn't even have any QTEs. Watto da pakku I really suck in this game. Kicking off the chapter is a cutscene between Bayonetta and Luka. I'm starting to hate this guy because all he is since their first meeting is a womanizer crybaby. Bayonetta seems to like that little shit though so better not question her preference in human males, she did kill his father so that could be a reason why she's always flirting/killing the guy. Anyway, The Lost Holy Grounds is rich with new enemies this time sporting some cool armor, with that said they are also pretty difficult and I had to hit and run in most cases unable to land chain combos, friggin' noob. This chapter goes progressively higher and higher with each verses until you're over the clouds, literally. Here's the part where I kept dying:
I raged in this part because why, in all of the more difficult verses, did I have to die in what could possibly one of the easiest parts of the game. You basically just run towards the top before the platform crumbles down and Harmony eats you it's instant death and that just sucks.
The obvious highlight of this chapter (sorry, I'm skipping a lot here) is round 2 of Bayonetta vs. Jeanne. I found it easier to fight Jeanne this time around because I'm better equipped and Witch Time is possible. After "defeating her" an epic cutscene plays where Bayonetta and Jeanne battle it out with all possible limb movements the Witch mind can come up with. Oh, I'm not joking you can't tell if they're breakdancing while killing each other or this is just Gun-kata taken to a whole new otherworldly level.
Either way, I enjoyed it. To end the chapter the Beast Within ability is unlocked and now Bayonetta can transform into a Black Panther. But unlike Alucard's Soul of Wolf in Symphony of the Night, Bayonetta can only run while in Panther mode, she can't deal any damage unless you transform back.
Puma and E.T., a perfect match
I'll save chapter six later, so, erm, later!
