Here's the question of the day - What is the best weapon type in Rune Factory 4?
The answer? Well there is no right answer. Everyone has their own preference, right? 'To each his own' as they say.
WRONG.
The best weapon type is the Fists.
No.
Atatata.
Nope.
Any argument beyond this point is invalid.
Yea, your argument is invalid.
Fists.
They're the best.
Oh ya' sayin' ya' want Dual Blades? Like Over-effin'-Powered Kazuto Kirigaya? No. It's the Fists.
The fists.
Dear lord, the fists.
...
...
I'm just kidding, it's still to each his own. Please don't leave.
For the majority of my playthrough after triggering Arc 3 in Rune Factory 4 I relied on the Dual Blades weapon Broken Wall a la Kirito to get some sort of progress in both Rune Prana and Sharance Maze. When I finally gathered enough forging materials and increased my forging skill to an acceptable level I was able to forge a Durendal and a Grantale. Both short swords together with Midori (Green fairy) and Aka (Red fairy) managed to get me through that giant icy elephant in Rune Prana but I only ever got short glimpses of Sharance Maze's second floor. Until, here's the best news I've had since Clorica accepted my love for her, I got lucky with a blue chest containing an enhanced Golem Punch, a Fist-type weapon which increases my ATK stat from a little over 1000 to around 6000. With it, regardless of my defense stat, I powered through Rune Prana 3 to 6 leveling up at a relatively fast rate from 130 to 189. I also got around to explore up to the 4th floor of Sharance Maze but looks like the checkpoint is still a few floors away.
Still, the Fists! I've never felt so powerful in a video game since entering those massive cheat codes in Shovel Knight.
The Fist, like the Spear and Dual Blades, can deal continuous damage to an opponent and has low lag in-between combos. Whenever a combo is chained the ending maneuver is Lest diving head-first while spinning towards the target like Inuzuka Kiba's signature jutsu Gatsuga (Fang Over Fang) from Naruto.
But wait, there's more!
With the exception of some dungeon bosses, equipping any Fist-type weapon grants the ability to pick up a knocked out or sleeping monster then slam 'em the Hulkamania way.
While raiding the latter parts of Rune Prana I rely heavily on the spear-type ability Millionstrike and fist-type ability Rush Punch, and together with pick up lest becomes one hell of a tank.
My progress with the lucky Golem Punch brought me all the way to Rune Prana 7 where this time I'm struggling against a Giant, wait for it, Golem. Ironic is it not? It's back to level grinding again but at least I'm closer to finishing the damn Arc 3 and save that damn guardian dragon so I can finally marry my everyday goddess. But the plot progression up to that point, good dragon Ventuswill the plot twist about Lest's real identity kinda hit me hard. Fate still turns the same direction even with a few bumps in the road, I guess.
Despite my previous post about RF4 I haven't even gone to first base with Clorica yet...I mean if hugging counts then I'd say I'm actually making good progress here, heh. Yeah, no. With my current progress now and all the grinding and crafting I have to do I managed to complete one of the hardest requests in the game - Take Arthur to Turnip Heaven. Turnip Heaven is a top tier dish that only requires three ingredients: Turnip, Pink Turnip and Golden Turnip. The first two ingredients can be grown in your backyard right off the bat, what's tricky is the Golden Turnip. Arthur will initially give you one Golden Turnip seed to grow, in my case it's the first one I got in the game so naturally I'd sell it for unlimited supply or until my ka-ching can take it. But I didn't. I planted the seed in the Winter Field and added Formula C to speed its growth because I'm not gonna wait for 120 in-game days for one crop. To my surprise, though, every once in a while (as long as the request is ongoing) talking to Elizabeth will result in obtaining another Golden Turnip seed. Throughout the course of the Request (the whole Winter season) I collected a total of five Golden Turnip seeds planting one, selling another one, and keeping the other three like a madman.
Successfully growing the Golden Turnip was just the first part of the challenge, the next is actually making Turnip Heaven which, at my current level then, required around 5000 RP to make while I can only soar up to a little over 2000 even with Relax Tea Leaves or any other food boosts. So around 100 Pineapple Juices, 70 Pizzas, 20 Curries, an undocumented number of Toasts, and some gold later I was able to raise my Cooking Skill to level 89 thus lowering the RP cost of Turnip Heaven. The result? One damn fine dish that costs more than every turnip I ever sold in the game. Lucky for Arthur friendship matters more than gold, unlucky for me though Arthur is too innocent:
Sweet dreams, Weiss. You now have to live with the idea that Arthur once "ate" you, forEVER.
